The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation of India (IRCTC) have introduced some rail tour packages that are meant to promote tourism in the country. These packages include rail travel, road transfer, hotel accommodation, meals and sight seeing. Some of the well known tourist destinations and historic pilgrimages are also included in the rail tour packages. To further enhance rail tourism, the railway has decided to develop new packages.
Some of the well known rail tour packages of the Indian Railway are as follows:
Rail Motor Car – this is a rail tour package that has introduced by IRCTC and it’s been served by the Kalka-Shimla Railway. The train that is used for this trip is a toy train named Deluxe Rail Motor Car. The train looks very similar to a vintage bus and has a capacity of 14 to 18 passengers. This car is fitted with a transparent fiber glass roof that offers a delightful view of the sky. The train has got TV/DVD, sound system and titleimeter. The cost of this trip is Rs. 550 for each passenger.
New Delhi-Shirdi Package – This is a four day tour package that has been launched for the devotees of Lord Sai Baba by IRCTC. The train departs from the Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi at two o’clock in the afternoon. The costs of this package are as follows: Rs. 6130 for adult double occupancy, Rs. 5894 for adult triple occupancy, Rs. 5658 for child with extra and Rs. 5540 for child without extra.
Kanyakumari-Rameswaram-Madurai Package – these three places are amongst the well known tourist destinations of the country. Madurai is referred as the ‘Athens of the East’ and Kanyakumari is the southern most point of the country. Kanyakumari is the place where the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea meets the Indian Ocean. The cost of the package starts from Rs. 5450 and goes up to Rs. 7850.
