The Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP) is to implement the Health Policy developed by the Tamil Nadu Government in 2003. It is to face the challenges of non-communicable diseases and to improve the healthcare facilities and the infrastructure across the State of Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project is approved by the World Bank and got an aid to the tune of over Rs. 500 crores. This project will be implemented in a period of about 5 years which ends in September 2010.

Implementations in TNHSP
The TNHSP will implement the increase in the access of the health care centres by the poor people in Tamil Nadu which includes the tribal groups and the disadvantaged people. The key health challenges with respect to the non-communicable diseases are dealt with effectively. The strengthening of the public sector healthcare systems are done to improve the health conditions of the people which also engages the non-governmental sector. The hospital services at the sub-district level and the district level are improved for effectiveness. It is planned to improve 29 district head quarters hospitals and 241 hospitals at the sub-district levels.
